Purpose
- To promote an inclusive, equitable, respectful, and accessible environment for all students and members of the WUB community.
- To ensure equal opportunities in education, student services, activities, and participation.
- To identify and address barriers that may limit students' participation or access to University opportunities.
Objectives
- To promote equality, inclusion, diversity, dignity, and mutual respect.
- To ensure fair access to academic and student development opportunities.
- To identify and reduce institutional, social, physical, or procedural barriers.
- To support students who may require reasonable accommodation or additional assistance.
- To promote awareness of inclusion and equal opportunity across the University.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and recommend policies and initiatives that promote inclusion and equal opportunity.
- Review University practices and student services from an inclusion and accessibility perspective.
- Identify barriers affecting students' participation in academic and co-curricular activities.
- Recommend reasonable accommodations and appropriate support for students with disabilities or specific needs.
- Promote equal participation in scholarships, leadership, clubs, sports, cultural activities, and other University programs.
- Organize awareness programs, seminars, workshops, and campaigns on equality, inclusion, respect, and non-discrimination.
- Encourage respectful interaction and a culture of dignity throughout the University.
- Receive and appropriately refer concerns relating to discrimination, exclusion, or unequal access.
- Coordinate with relevant departments, the Office of Student Affairs, and other committees to address inclusion-related issues.
- Collect student feedback regarding accessibility, equality, and participation.
- Monitor the effectiveness of inclusion and equal opportunity initiatives.
- Recommend improvements to University facilities, services, and procedures where necessary.
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation of Committee activities.
Principles
- Equality: Students shall be provided fair and equitable opportunities.
- Inclusion: All students should be encouraged and supported to participate fully in University life.
- Non-Discrimination: No student shall be unfairly disadvantaged or excluded in violation of University policy or applicable law.
- Accessibility: Reasonable efforts shall be made to ensure access to facilities, services, information, and activities.
- Respect and Dignity: All members of the University community shall be treated with dignity and respect.
- Confidentiality: Personal information and sensitive concerns shall be handled appropriately and confidentially.
Meetings
- The Committee shall meet regularly, preferably at least once each semester.
- Special meetings may be convened when urgent inclusion or equal opportunity matters arise.
- Minutes, decisions, and recommendations shall be properly recorded.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Review the participation and experiences of students across different University activities and services.
- Assess accessibility and identify areas requiring improvement.
- Review student feedback and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
- Monitor implementation of approved inclusion and equal opportunity initiatives.
Reporting
- Prepare periodic reports on inclusion, accessibility, equal opportunity initiatives, and outcomes.
- Submit recommendations and reports to the appropriate authority of WUB.
- Maintain relevant documentation for institutional monitoring, quality assurance, and accreditation purposes.
